Critics generally lauded the game'southward appealing personality, animations, music, singled-out playstyles, enjoyable combat, and multiplayer.[39] [40] [42] Chris Moyse of Destructoid institute the game'southward attention to particular to exist charismatic, writing, "Where Shredder's Revenge shines brightest, still, is in its personality, utilizing...Private run cycles, taunts, and celebrations; goofy background characters; and nods to previous TMNT games, shows, and movies."[35] Mollie L. Patterson of EGM thought that the game surpassed the quality of the titles it drew inspiration from and called its visuals "by far the game'due south best feature", while farther praising the stage diversity, attainable depth, distinct grapheme-based playstyles, and enemy roster.[36] Marcus Stewart of Game Informer praised the use of level-specific objectives meant to encourage role player exploration and the game's cluttered brand of local multiplayer amusement, stating, "Sure, losing track of yourself in the sea of digital humanity happens often and can be mildly frustrating, but the joy of laughing and cheering alongside so many buddies dulls that irritation."[37] Mitchell Saltzman of IGN said that Shredder'southward Revenge had "one of the all-time soundtracks of the year", and also commended the inclusion of additional character mobility options and a meter which incentivized skilled playstyles.[16]

Their animations capture their personality...[43]" Push Foursquare praised the game'southward utilise of rollback netcode and the stability of the online co-op mode, noting that it was "as sturdy as local [co-op]."[44] TJ Denzer of Shacknews said that Shredder's Revenge was one of the all-time beat-em-ups he had always played, and wrote, "Each character is fun to explore, the music will stay in your head long later you lot end playing, and fifty-fifty if the game feels a scrap curt, there are enough of reasons to go back."[45]

Though critics more often than not regarded the game positively, they took minor issue with a few of its elements. Destructoid felt that while the championship was deeper than its predecessors, information technology bankrupt little new basis in the genre, and accounted its gainsay mechanics less precise than the ones seen in Streets of Rage iv.[35] EGM criticized the game's subpar audio quality, and wrote, "All of the audio in this game is disappointing...Some of the voice acting sounds actually off. Attacks often lack that satisfying oomph when hit an opponent. Explosions sound bloodless.
